Abstract:
Peritoneal metastasis (PM) is a common form of metastasis of colorectal cancer, and the prognosis of patients with colorectal cancer peritoneal metastases is poor despite active treatment. In recent years, a new method of intraperitoneal chemotherapy- pressurized intraperitoneal aerosol chemotherapy (PIPAC) – has received widespread attention. Researchers in multiple countries have carried out many prospective studies and clinical trials based on the belief that PIPAC is a safe, effective, and promising treatment for patients with peritoneal cancer. PIPAC has also been used by several medical centers to treat patients with peritoneal cancer. With the increasing clinical evidence for PIPAC, researchers are paying more attention to its clinical applications. Here, the theoretical basis, development history, operation procedure, indications, contraindications, and drug regimen for PIPAC, as well as the latest progress in its clinical application in the treatment of colorectal cancer peritoneal metastases are reviewed. This review aims to provide a reference for clinical practice and research.
