Abstract:
Hepatoid adenocarcinoma of stomach (HAS) is a special subtype of gastric cancer. Although its reported morbidity rate is low, HAS may exhibit highly concerning aggressive biological behavior, easy lymph node and liver metastasis, and poor prognosis. With the accumulation of case reports and research on clinicopathological features, diagnosis, and molecular biological traits of HAS, understanding of the disease has gradually deepened. Nevertheless, several easily neglected problems remain to be addressed. The present overview summarizes the category, origin, diagnosis, molecular biological features, and prognosis of HAS based on a review of existing case reports and research. The authors anticipate that this overview will provide direction for more extensive follow-up research investigating HAS.
