Abstract:
After lung resection, thoracic drainage management is key to determine the postoperative course of the patient, affecting recovery speed and hospital stay. Although traditional thoracic drainage systems have been widely used, they display several limitations, especially when alveolar air leaks occur after pneumonectomy, representing a risk of prolonged chest tube application. The digital thoracic drainage system could accelerate air leak healing and reduce thoracic drainage flow, thereby shortening the hospital stay depending on its unique advantages confirmed by several studies. This article reviews the value of the digital thoracic drainage system in pneumonectomy and discusses its further efficient applications.
