Abstract:
Objective:To investigate the clinicopathologic characteristics, treatment and prognosis of primary lymphoep -ithelioma-like carcinoma (LELC) of the lung. Methods:Clinical and pathological data of 9 patients with pulmonary LELC were reviewed. Pulmonary LELC was analyzed through review of literatures. Results: There were5 males and 4 females and all of them were from easten China. Patients' age was ranged from 39to 75years with a median of57years. Immuno -histochemistry showed that cytokeratin was positive in all of the9 cases. In situ hybridization showed positive expression of EBV-encoded small nuclear RNA (EBER) in 7 cases. Of the 9 LELC cases, 6 were treated with surgery and3 were treated with surgery plus postoperative chemotherapy. Seven patients were still alive and the longest survival was40months. Conclusion: Lymphoepithelioma-like carcinoma of the lung is associated with Epstein-Barr virus infection and may response to chemotherapy. Surgery-based multimodality treatment is recommended.
