Abstract:
Objectives To analyze the clinicopathologic features of adenoid cystic carcinoma(ACC), the expression of S-100 and neural cell adhesion molecule(NCAM) was investigated in ACC, and the relationship between S-100 and NCAM in ACC with perineural invasion was discussed.
Methods The S-100 and NCAM expression in 42 ACC cases was determined using inimunohistochemistry, and the relationship between them was discussed.
Results The rate of S-100 expression was 80%in the neural invasion group, which is significantly higher compared to the non-neural invasion group(33.3%)(P = 0.011, P < 0.05).The difference in NCAM positive expression between the neural invasion group and the non-neural invasion group was not statistically significant.S-100 and NCAM expression was not significantly different(P > 0.05).
Conclusion S-100 expression is closely correlated with neural invasion in ACC.and a significant difference in the tubular and solid subtypes is correlated with ACC cell differentiation.NCAM expression is not correlated with ACC neural invasion and S-100 expression.
