Abstract:
Radiotherapies combined with chemotherapy, such as neo-adjuvant chemotherapy, concomitant chemo-radiotherapy, and adjuvant chemotherapy, are recommended in the treatment of loco-regionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC).Concurrent chemo-radiotherapy is the standard treatment for advanced NPC.Although whether neo-adjuvant chemotherapy could improve the overall survival still remains uncertain, this treatment can increase the response rate and potentially eradicate the subclinical metastasis in patients with advanced NPC.The addition of paclitaxel and cisplatin-based neo-adjuvant chemotherapy has shown potential in terms of therapeutic efficacy and safety. The clinical trials of the neo-adjuvant chemotherapy combined with subsequent chemo-radiotherapy are more widely studied than independent radiotherapy and chemotherapy.Targeted therapy in combination with radiotherapy and chemotherapy is also popular in current studies.
