Abstract:
Chemotherapy plays a crucial role in the treatment of locally advanced/advanced head and neck cancer and is of great significance in improving local control rates, delaying tumor progression, reducing distant metastasis, and prolonging overall survival of patients. Taxanes plus platinum (TP) and taxanes plus cisplatin and 5- Fu (TPF) are classic and effective chemotherapy regimens for treating head and neck cancer. Therefore, taxanes such as paclitaxel and docetaxel are commonly used for treating head and neck cancer. Various clinical trials have demonstrated superior efficacy and safety and unique dosage form advantages of nab-paclitaxel, a new type of paclitaxel. This review summarizes the safety and efficacy of nab-paclitaxel combined with other chemotherapy regimens in treating locally advanced/advanced head and neck cancer; moreover, it also summarizes latest clinical trials on the application of nabpaclitaxel in treating head and neck cancer and provides insights into the future treatment modes for locally advanced/advanced head and neck cancer.
