Research progress of mathematical models for predicting brain tumor progression and prognosis

  • 摘要: 转化医学(translational medicine)是将基础研究成果和临床实际问题有机结合起来的新兴学科,注重不同学科之间的交叉和不同领域同行之间的交流协作,目的是将基础发现应用于临床,造福更多患者。数学模型是目前一个新兴的概念,旨在通过先进的统计学手段,汇总临床和基础研究中可以得到的某些变量,在一定特定区间内设计出能够反映临床信息的函数,该函数与真实的临床参数有一致性与吻合性。随着转化医学和生物信息学技术的发展,数学模型正广泛地运用于临床,其在肿瘤的诊断、生长预测、侵袭发展、预后等方面均有应用。脑肿瘤是神经外科常见的疾病,恶性脑肿瘤的预后极差,是患者健康和社会的巨大威胁与负担。本文将对数学模型在脑肿瘤进展和转归中的应用作一综述,旨在强调数学模型在转化医学中的作用,让更多研究者了解数学模型在脑肿瘤中发展现况。

     

    Abstract: Translational medicine is a new discipline that organically combines basic research and clinical study. It focusses on interactions among different disciplines, as well as communication and cooperation among clinicians in different fields. The purpose of translational medicine is to apply findings of basic research to clinical practice in order for more patients to benefit. Mathematical models are a new concept that aim to summarize variables obtained from clinical and basic research using emerging statistical analyses and design a function that reflects clinical information to some degree. With the development of translational medicine and bioinformatics technology, mathematical models are now widely used in tumor diagnosis, growth prediction, invasion and development, and prognosis. In neurosurgery, brain tumors are a prevalent condition with poor prognosis and are a considerable threat and burden to patients' health and society. This study reviews the application of mathematical models in the development and prognosis of brain tumors. We aimed to emphasize the role of mathematical models in translational medicine and assess the current application of mathematical models for brain tumors.
