Abstract:
Objective To investigate the clinical characteristics and prognoses of gastric cancer at different sites.
Methods Patients who underwent radical gastrectomy at Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute and Hospital from January 2010 to December 2014 were selected and divided into four tumor location-based groups: upper gastric cancer, middle gastric cancer, lower gastric cancer, and multiple site gastric cancer. Clinical characteristics and prognosis were compared among the groups.
Result The overall 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year survival rates were 77.1%, 46.0%, and 31.0%, respectively. Survival rates differed significantly among the four groups. In terms of clinical characteristics, there were significant differences in the sex ratio, Borrmann classification, pathological type, maximum tumor diameter, T stage, N stage, clinical stage, and presence of soft tissue metastasis among the groups.
Conclusions The clinical characteristics and prognoses of gastric cancer were significantly different according to different sites of gastric cancer. Therefore, individualized treatment should be carried out according to the patient's condition.
