Abstract:
Objective : To investigate the expression of Galectin-3, VEGF, Ki-67, and MVD in metastatic lymph nodes of breast cancer in young women and to explore the clinical significance of these indices.
Methods : We used immunohistochemistry to detect the expression of Galectin-3, VEGF, Ki-67 and MVD in 35 samples of metastatic lymph nodes from breast cancer in young women and 35 samples of metastatic lymph nodes from breast cancer in women at other ages.
Results : Galectin-3 expression in the young women group was significantly higher than that in the control group (
P<0.01). No significant difference was found in VEGF expression between the two groups (
P>0.05). Ki-67 and MVD expressions were higher in the young women group than in the control group (
P<0.01 and
P<0.01). A positive correlation was found between the Galectin-3 expression and the Ki-67 and MVD (
P<0.01 and
P<0.01).
Conclusion : The high expression of Galectin-3 may contribute to tumor growth and angiogenesis. The metastatic lymph nodes of young women with breast carcinoma showed higher tumor growth, stronger invasion and angiogenesis, which is an important factor for the malignancy and poorer prognosis of breast carcinoma in young women.
