Abstract:
Objective: To investigate the clinicopathologic features of esophageal cancer (EC) patients after surgeryin the Fourth Hospital of Heibei Medical University, and to analyze the epidemiologic characteristics of esophageal cancerin the south of Hebei Province.
Methods: A total of 4,329 patients with esophageal cancer seen in our hospital from Jan-uary 1996 to December 2005 were selected. All clinical information were collected and analyzed by SAS 6.0 softwarepackage.
Results: The patients' age showed an ascending tendency from 1996 to 2005. The constituent ratio of the squa-mous esophageal cancer showed a descending tendency, and that of the oat cell carcinoma showed an ascending tendency.The constituent ratio of stageⅡ showed a descending tendency, while that of stage Ⅳ showed an ascending tendency. Theratio of gender, age, pathological type, infiltrative depth, clinical stage and lymph node metastasis were statistically differ-ent among the three segments of esophageal cancer (
P<0.05).
Conclusion: EC patients in Hebei province consult at a latetime. From 1996 to 2005, the constituent ratio of the squamous esophageal cancer showed a descending tendency, and thatof the oat cell carcinoma showed an ascending tendency. The constituent ratio of adenocarcinoma showed no changes.
