Abstract:
Objective : To evaluate the outcome of prostate carcinoma treated with three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3D-CRT).
Methods : To retrospectively analyze 29 patients with prostatecarcinoma treated with 3D-CRT. The patients of twenty-six cases underwent orthiectomy before radiation therapy and that of 22 cases received orchiectomy combined with hormone treatment. All patients received 3D-CRT with a median dose of 68 Gy, 1.8-2.0Gy per fraction, five fractions weekly.
Results :The median follow-up duration was 18 months. The overall survival was 82.8% and the disease specific survival was 93.1%. In terms of acute GI side effects, the frequencies of Qrade I , II or III reactions were 44.8%, 6.9%, 3.4%, while Grade I or II acute GU side effects were 34.5%, 6.9%, respectively.
Conclusion : The outcome of 3D-CRT for patients with prostate carcinoma is satisfactory, and the side effects tolerable to most patients.
