Abstract:
Objective :To investigate the correlation of MMP-9 and CD44v6 protein expression with tumor invasiveness, metastasis and prognosis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) patients.
Methods :100 primary NPC were examined for MMP-9 and CD44v6 protein expression by immunohisto-chemistry LSAB method.
Results :MMP-9 staining was positive in 85of100 (85%) NPC, including 23 of “+",53 of “++",9 of “+++".CD44v6 staining was positive in 60 of 96 (63.5%) NPC,including 60 of “+'',8 of “++'',16 of “+++''.There was no significant correlation of MMP-9 and CD44v6 expression with age, gender, and TNM stage of NPC patients. The patients with MMP-9 “+++" expression in NPC revealed poorer overall survival compared with those with MMP-9 “++" or "“+ " expression or negative patients. CD44v6 expression in NPC did not correlated with overall survival in NPC patients.
Conclu-sion :No significant correlation of CD44v6 and MMP-9 expression with age, gender, and TNM stage of NPC patients was observed. Those NPC patients with MMP-9 protein strong positive expression indicated poor prognosis.
