Abstract:
Objective:To discuss the expression level of inhibitor of apoptosis protein survivin in human brain glioma and its relationship between tumorigenesis and progression of brain glioma. Methods: Expression level of survivin protein was investigated by immunohistochemistry SABC method in 83 cases of brain glioma and 12 cases of normal brain tissue. Results: It was 57.8%, 3.7513.89 and 8.3%,0.17士0.58, respectively that the positive expression percent and immunoreactivity score (IRS) of survivin in brain glioma and normal brain tissue. There was specially significant difference (both P<0.01), respectively between the positive expression percent and IRS of survivin in brain glioma and those in normal brain tissue. It was 29.4%, 44.0%, 72.2%, 82.6% and 38.1%, 78.0% respectively that the positive expression percent of survivin in I to IV grade brain glioma and benign and malignant brain glioma. There were specially significant difference (P=0.002<0.01, P<0.01)respectively among the positive expression percent of survivin in I to grade brain glioma, and between the positive expression percent of survivin in benign brain glioma and that in malignant brain glioma. It was 1.2912.62,2.56士3.44, 4.78士3.89, 6.04士3.78 and 2.05士3.16, 5.49士3.83 respectively that the survivin IRS in I to IV grade brain glioma and benign and malignant brain glioma. There were specially significant differ-once (both P<0.01)respectively among the survivin IRS in I to IV grade brain glioma, and between the survivin IRS in benign brain glioma and that in malignant brain glioma too. Conclusion: Survivin is overexpressed in brain glioma, and survivin expression is improved with the increasing of pathologicalgrade of brain glioma. Survivin plays an important role in tumorigenesis and progression of brain glioma.
