Abstract: Objective: To investigate expression of apoptosis-associated genes survivin and Caspase-9 in gastric cncer tissues and its' relationship with tumorigenesis of gastric cancer. Methods: RT-PCR for survivin and Caspase-9 expression was conducted on 30 gastric cancer tissues and 10 gastric normal tissues. Results: Survivin was expressed in 20 of 30 (66.7%) gastric cancer tissues. In contract, 10 gastric normal tissues did not express survivin. Although all of 30 gastric cancer tissues and 10 gastric normal tissues express Caspase-9, expression value of Caspase-9 in 30 gastric cancer tissues was strongly decreased than that in 10 normal gastric tissues (P0.01), and there wasn't significant difference in expression value of Caspase-9 between 20 survinvin-positive and 10 survinvin-negative gastric cancer tissues. Conclusions: The expression of survivin in gastric cancer tissues is significantly increased and Caspase-9 is significantly decressed, overexpress of survivin and low express of Caspase-9 are both one of the important factors that cause tumorigenesis of gastric cancer.
