Abstract:
Objective : To assess the effects of EPA and DHA on signal transduction for apoptosisof the human gastric BGC-823 cells in vitro.
Methods : Inhibitive rate of the cells was determined byMTT assay. Apoptotic rate and expression of bcl-2, Gαand PKCβ Ⅱ proteins were determined usingflow cytometry.
Results : After treatment with 45μ g/ml of EPA or DHA and at the exposed point of 48h,the growth of cells was markedly inhibited (P<0.001), and apoptotic rate was markedly increased (P<0.001). Expression of bcl-2 was decreased (P<0.05), and expression of Gαand PKCβ Ⅱ protein weremarkedly decreased (P<0.001).
Conclusions : The ω-3 fatty acids can induce apoptosis of human gas-tric BGC-823 cells. Gαand PKCβ Ⅱ signaling may play an important role in apoptosis of the cells.
