Abstract:
Objective: To study the role of REIC gene in the occurence and development of gas-tric cancer. Methods: RT-PCR was performed to detect the mRNA levels of REIC gene in freshly re-sected samples from 50 patients with gastric cancer. Results: The mRNA level of REIC gene in 26 of the 50 (52%, 26/50) samples from gastric cancer tissue is markedly less than that from paraneoplastic tissues (P<0.05). Furthermore, the decreased mRNA expression of REIC gene correlated positively with invasive depth of gastric cancer. Conclusion: The decreased mRNA expression of REIC gene may playan important role in the development of gastric cancer. And thus REIC gene might be a novel candidateof tumor-suppressor.
