Abstract: Objective: To examine the effects of Elemene injection combined with radiotherapy for relieving pain due to metastatic bone tumors. Methods: Sixty patients with metastatic bone tumors were randomized into the observation group (n=30) and the control group (n=30). All of these patients were treated with radiotherapy (DT 30GY/10F). The patients in the observation group were given additional medication consisting of Elemene (300mg, i. v. d1-14). Differences in the the rapeutic efficacy, qualityof life (QOL) and hematological toxicity during the treatment were observed. Results: The effective rates in the observation group and the control group were significantly different (P<0.05). Compared topatients in the control group, patients in the observation group showed a significant increase in theQOL (P<0.05) and a lower hematological toxicity after chemotherapy (P<0.05). Conclusion: These re-sults suggest that Elemene combined with radiotherapy is effective for relieving the pain caused bymetastatic bone tumors with mild side effects.
