Abstract: Abstract Breast reconstruction should be regarded as an integrated part of breast cancer treat-ment. Immediate breast reconstruction has the advantages of a better cosmetic result and of avoiding the need for a second major surgical procedure. In this review, we discuss recent progress in immediate breast reconstruction, the influences on the methods of breast surgery, the adjuvant therapy after surgery, the carcinogenesis itself and the detection of recurrence.
