Abstract: Objective : Summing-up the experience of surgical treatment for 86 cases of atrialmyxomas. Methods : Between January 1984 and January 2001,86 patients underwent evaluation andtreatment for atrial myxomas. Results : 86 patients were diagnosed of atrial myxomas (Male/Female: 32/average age 46+14 years. The myxomas were removed by transthoracic approach using extracorpo-circulation. Pathological examination of the tumors showed atrial myxomas. There were no periop-erative deaths. Conclusions : Complete surgical resection,when possible,is only choice for the treat-ment of primary cardiac myxomas. Prognosis after surgical excision is usually excellent.
