Abstract:
Objective : To evaluate the optimum surgical management for patient with hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC).
Methods : From August 1990 to August 2002, 31 patients with HNPCC confirmed with the Japan criteria, underwent subtotal colectomy or routine colectomy. The clinical datas were analyzed, including the decrease of weight, hemoglobin, serum albumin pre-and post-operation, the frequency of excretion everyday and the recuiTence rate after operation. The difference were compared between patients underwent subtotal colectomy and those underwent routine excision.
Results : As compared with the patients with routine colectomy, there was on significant difference of the weight lose, quantity of the hemoglobin and the serum albumin between the two groups of patients. The frequency of excretion of patients underwent subtotal colectomy was more than that of patients underwent routine colectomy everyday, but there was no significant difference between two groups. As compared with patients underwent routine colectomy, the recurrence rate after operation of the patients underwent subtotal colectomy are significantly lower.
Conclusions : For patients with HNPCC, the subtotal colectomy is preferable than the routine excision.
