Abstract:
Objective :To evaluate the efficacy of nephron sparing surgery for solitary kidney or bilateral renal cell carcinoma.
Methods :Eight cases of solitary kidney or bilateral renal cell carcinoma were treated by nephron sparing surgery. This series includes 2 patients with solitary kidney and 6 with bilateral renal cell carcinoma. Tumor enucleation in 5 patients and partial nephrectomy in 3 patients.
Results :The patients were followed up for 9-108 months, with an average of 46 months postoperatively. Seven patients were alive, without any tumor recurrence or metastasis and the other one died of lung metastasis of tumor 9 months after operation.
Conclusion :Nephron sparing surgery can be performed with satisfactory result in solitary kidney or bilateral renal cell carcinoma.
