Abstract:
Objective : To investigate the roles of survivin in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) of high aflatoxin B1 risk area.
Methods : The expression of survivin mRNA in 55 cases of HCC and adjacent liver tissues from high aflatoxin B1 risk area was determined by reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction.
Results : The positive rate of survivin mRNA in the HCC tissue (85.5%, 47/55) was markedly higher than that of adjacent liver tissue (40.0%, 22/55) (P<0.01). There was a close corrrelation between the expression of survivin mRNA and the clinical stage (P<0.05) and diameter of tumor (P<0.05).
conclusion : Survivin may play an important role in the development of HCC and survivin mRNA can be considered as a prognostic marker for HCC in high aflatoxin B1 risk area.
