Abstract:
Objective :To discuss the probability of supraclavicular metastasis in the limited-stage small cell lung cancer (LS- SCLC) through the studies on the irradiated volume in 30 patients withthe disease.
Methods :During the period from Nov 1999 to May 2002, 30 patients with LS- SCLC wereadmitted and treated here in the department. All the cases wire followed up for 2 to 3 years and a half, who wire pathol cally confirmed and were diagnosed by CT scan and bone scan in the chest, the liv-er and adrenal gland at abdomen, and the head, with no lymphatic metastasis in supraclavicular reon.Irradiation in the primary focus of lung, homolateral hilum of lung and mediastinum were conductedduring the 6 cycles of chemotherapy, and the reduced field was increased to 60 Gys after conventionalfractionated irradiation with 40 Gys.
Results :After the combined treatment of chemoradiotherapy on 30 patients with small cell lung cancer at limited stage, no metastases at lymph node of neck occurs in90% of them, apart from 3 cases.
Conclusions :Prophylactic irradiation on neck may be irrespective as the combined treatment of chemoradiotherapy on the patients with small cell lung cancer at limitedstage.
