Abstract:
Objective: To summarize and analyze the clinical and pathological characteristics of male patients with breast cancer, and the diagnosis, treatment and prognostic factors of the disease. Methods: Clinical and pathological data of the 26 male patients with breast cancer, who underwent surgical treatment in our hospital, were retrospectively analyzed. Results: All patients were confirmed by cytological examination or excisional biopsy. Among the 26 cases, radical mastectomy was conducted in 3, modified radical mastectomy in 22, partial mastectomy in 1. Pathological diagnosis indicated that invasive ductal carcinoma was found in 25 cases, among which there was a complication of the nipple Paget's disease in 1 and of the mucinous adenocarcinoma in another. Of the 25 patients undergoing an axillary lymph node resection, 12 suffered lymph node metastases. Hormone receptor examination was performed in 20 patients, in which positive ER was seen in 17 patients (85.0%), positive PR in 14 (70.0%) and positive Her- 2 in 6 (30.0%). During the follow- up, 2 patients died, 2 had lung metastases, and 1 suffered a bone metastasis. Conclusion: The combined therapy, with modified radical mastectomy as the first choice, is the treatment mode for male patient with breast cancer. There is a certain correlation between the prognosis of male breast cancer and clinical stage of the disease.
