Abstract: Objective : To summarize the clinical significance of intraoperative ultrasound in surgery of brain tumors. Methods : Twenty-six brain tumors from 20 patients were removed, localizing by intraoperative ultrasound. Results : Total resection of the tumors was achieved in all cases. Localization of the tumors was accurate. Exploration was not necessary. Injury of normal tissue was quite slight. There are no disturbances of CNS function observed after surgery. Conclusion : Intraoperative ultrasound is a cheap, simple and useful real-time tool for localizing brain tumors not seen on the brain surface.
